More on Climate Change

This column is from Tom Jackson of the Tampa Tribune.

Ginning up war on prosperity, liberty

Declaring whether human-induced climate change is Armageddon right around the corner or the most elaborate hoax in history is above my pay grade. I’m no scientist.

Then again, neither are the world leaders who preened at the climate-fest last week, so there you go.

Yes, nothing says concern for the planet quite like the world’s potentates jetting to Paris at Christmastime with the notion of carving up the riches of developed nations whose successes are based in the rule of law and individual property rights.

As India environment minister Prakash Javadekar remarked, scoffing at the U.S. pledge of a $100 billion annual fund to salve the shift to green energy among emerging economies, “The cost of action ... is trillions; $100 billion is just a reparation.”

So, yeah, science.

What I do know is the last time anyone in the majoritarian side recommended prosecuting anyone with a contrary opinion — as climate scientists and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse have urged — Galileo was fiddling with his telescope. And soon enough, settled cosmological science was replaced by a fresh, humbling paradigm.

So when President Obama pummels us with hockey sticks of “consensus” and “97 percent of climate scientists,” understand that the terms are scarcely worth the carbon dioxide expelled to render them.

The latter, in particular, is a pernicious myth, generated from a single survey of abstracts from climate studies, the results of which have been shrewdly mangled to produce a desired result: separating you from the liberty and prosperity generated by cheap, abundant and technologically scrubbable fossil fuels.

But what happened in Paris last week is not about your quality of life, or even that of your children about whom Obama speaks with such concern. It was, and the way forward is, less about avoiding climatic catastrophe than snuffing the economic system that has proved singularly beneficial to the sharp rise of human achievement: free market capitalism.

U.N. climate chief Christiana Figueres, daughter of Costa Rica, declared the naked purpose of the warmist cult last February: “This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said. “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

You can’t make it much plainer than that.

What’s chilling is President Obama has been an eager and leading participant in this conspiracy against a fundamental American virtue. And for what? His ego. Even The New York Times says so, describing his ambition “to make climate-change policy the signature achievement of his, and perhaps any, presidency.”

Yeah. For the fawning Times, securing the union (Lincoln) and defeating the twin threats of German Nazism and Japanese imperialism (FDR) are thin gruel by comparison

Luckily, nothing resembling the 1998 Kyoto Protocol has emerged from Paris — the parties last week agreed only on voluntary reductions — and Obama’s time in office grows short. Perhaps the next U.S. president will have a more American-centric view of energy’s link to freedom and prosperity ... and the cleaner environment that emerges as a result

Concealed Carry??

The following item was posted on Facebook by the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association.

"I stand behind you in line at the store with a smile on my face...and a gun under my shirt and you are none the wiser, yet you are safer for having me next to ...you. I won't shoot you. My gun won't pull it's own trigger. It is securely holstered with the trigger covered. It can't just go off. However, rest assured that if a lunatic walks into the grocery store and pulls out a rifle, I will draw my pistol and protect myself and my family and therefore protect you and your family. I may freeze up. I may piss my pants. I may get shot before I can pull the trigger...but, I won't die in a helpless blubbering heap on the floor begging for my life or my child's life. I won't be that victim. I choose not to be. As for you, I don't ask you to carry a gun. If you are not comfortable, then please don't. But I would like to keep my right to choose to not be a helpless victim. There is evil in the world and if evil has a gun, I want one too..." -Brian Cerny

Climate Change on Facebook

There was a post on Facebook the other day from the NRDC. That's the National Resources Defense Council. Sounds like some official government agency, right? It isn't. They wanted people "to take bold action" and sign a petition. They wanted us "to stand with Robert Redford" and they would deliver the petition to the Paris conference "Climate Change" or "Global Warming" or whatever it is this year. Below is an exchange of ideas on the issue.

Gilbert Jones At one point in history, almost all the scientists believed that the sun revolved around the earth. Many also believed that the earth was flat. We can't cure cancer. We can't change our behaviors to stop AIDS. We can't feed the poor. We can't stop nations like Iran and North Korea from developing nuclear weapons. Why are we worried about a "carbon footprint"? Some moron on the local news tonight ridiculed some Americans for not believing in "global warming". If it is any consolation Justin, I don't believe in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or that socialism works. Robert Redford needs to pack it in and gracefully exit the public stage.

Daren Scot Wilson No, there was little belief in the past about a flat Earth. It is a popular misconception that anyone thought that long ago.. But the Sun going around the Earth, yes, that was believed in for a long time.

Zach Drejza gilbert, smartest statement on this post, hence none of these morons being able to even respond to you. thank you

Diane Ellis McRoberts Wrong, Gilbert Jones! People CAN change their behaviors to stop AIDS. It's a matter of maturity and choice. We CAN feed the poor. And, MANY Americans know that global warming is a REAL issue. Also, feel free to keep your childhood fantasies of Santa, Easter Bunny, and Tooth Fairy alive. You don't seem to be living in reality elsewhere. Why not continue to believe what children believe?

Gilbert Jones Diane Ellis McRoberts Pardon me honey, but apparently you have drank all of the Kool-Aid that the "climate change" crowd is passing out. If we can change behaviors to stop AIDS, why haven't we? If we can feed the hungry, why don't we? If we can cure cancer, why haven't we? TODAY, more people will die from those causes than will die from climate change. "Climate Change" used to be called "global warming" before that theory lost traction. Obama flew to Paris to talk about "climate change". That took TWO 747's (Air Force One and its backup) and several cargo planes to carry the limos and Suburbans that make up the Presidential motorcade. Add the number of people in his entourage and the reporters covering the President and then measure the "carbon footprint" of that trip. What's the hypocrisy level there? Climate change?? Do you think that has never happened before? Did the Vikings call Greenland that just out of sarcasm? What caused the climate to change before the Industrial Age? Are you so vain as to believe that man can significantly alter the climate on his own? The "Climate Change" crowd only has one fact going for them. Barnum was right. There really is a sucker born every minute

Eliminate the box??

In today's news, Obama wants to "eliminate the box" on federal job applications where applicants have to disclose if they have a criminal record. Sounds like another idea from a man who has never run a private sector business.

Here's my side of the story. Over the last 40 years, I have employed several people who were in prison and on work release. I have employed several people who had been in prison and many who had criminal records. My experience is that they fail or succeed at about the same rate as the rest of the population.

I also want to know about whether applicants graduated from high school and where they have worked before. Will Obama move to remove that information from the applications for federal employees also? Why bother having them apply? Just hire anyone who shows up!!

Come to think of it, this is how the electorate hired Obama. Can't prove where he was born, can't find out details about his education, there is more solid data about vampires than Obama's past. He just seems to have fallen out of the sky and into his job. Should we follow this path with all federal employees?

Climate Change??

Climate change?? I have caught my limit on this subject for this lifetime. Forty five years ago, I sat in an Advanced Physics class at Leto High and struggled to stay awake as Rufus Noble Dillard droned on and on about something.  Then one day, we had a discussion about climate change. That was probably when Al Gore was in Vietnam as a photographer, so we didn't discuss global warming. Instead we discussed a growing theory that we were headed towards another Ice Age. I thought that it was BS then and I think that it is BS now.

Anyway, in the foodservice management business, we have people who practice what we call "snapshot management". They come in for about five minutes and determine how everything is running based on that observation. This is what scientists are doing today. They are taking data from today and extrapolating that data to fit long term scenarios. They want us to believe that they are all knowing.

If you believe in science that strongly, watch how often your weather forecaster on the evening news is wrong. They are only forecasting the next day!! They couldn't tell us that Katrina was going to turn or that Super Storm Sandy was going to maul the Northeast.

So what's climate change all about? Control and cash. Control is the first issue. There is no aspect of your life so small or so large that the government doesn't want to control it. That's just the nature of the beast. The ruling class travels in limos and yacht- sized cars while urging us to walk or take the bus. This is the old Soviet Union way of government and life. For Obama to go to Paris with the entourage that Presidential travel entails and then talk carbon footprints, brings hypocrisy to levels so high that they have never been seen before.

Then there is the biggie, cash. This is all about money. Governments have realized that they can tax this "carbon footprint" crap. We are going to have carbon taxes.  Businesses will be able to buy "carbon credits". Where is all of this money actually going to go? Don't tell me where they are promising us where it will go. In the coming edition of Roget's Thesaurus, "Climate change" will be listed as a synonym for bullshit!! Those in the know will be saying, "That's just C.C." instead of BS.

I am going outside to burn my last can of Freon..
