Reflections from the Road Ver. 7.20

My wife and I recently returned from a ten day road trip accompanied by our eight year old granddaughter. We visited relatives in Louisiana and Florida  The last day featured a stop at South of the Border, that's in South Carolina, not Miami.

Normally the highways are filled with billboards advertising ambulance chasing legal specialists. This trip the most frequently appearing signs read "now hiring". Yes, "now hiring". This because the federal government is saving the country from the 'Rona virus by paying people more to stay home than their employers will pay them to work. We told the Congress before they passed this, but Democrats insisted that their loafers would fall to pieces without a $600 weekly federal supplement to their state unemployment benefits. Turns out that we were right. People will not work if they can stay home watching television and make more money. Gomer Pyle said it best, "Surprise, Surprise!!"

Hotels that normally offer a hot breakfast now offer a few wrapped sweet rolls and fruit wrapped in plastic film. There is no reduction in the room rates, however.

Memo to mask wearers: While the mask may or may not protect you from something, washing your hands before leaving the rest stop restroom is still a good practice. An impromptu analysis from my rest area experiences reveals that mask wearers are less likely to wash their hands in comparison to the anti-mask desperados that Democrats lecture the nation about constantly. This problem will continue after the "Rona has gone away. By the way, if you don't wash your hands, don't bite your nails.

The Panic of 2020 has caused businesses to act to further increase profits while sales skyrocket. At Wal-Mart, they are down to using one entrance at their stores. This herds all of the customers into a cattle chute to enter and exit, so that they need not staff the other entrances. It's not like their traffic has slowed and they need to reduce staffing, they are just greedy. Cut costs and blame the 'Rona.  Many fast food chains will not re-open their doors until they can use 100% of their seating. So you are compelled to use the drive-thru. This is difficult for those who walk to the restaurant. With many fast food chains facing double digit sales increases, they are using this opportunity to maximize profits by not allowing people to walk inside and order takeout.

In the beach area of South Alabama, there are few mask wearers. There are more in the Florida panhandle area, but they are still not in the majority. Why can't the government just give out accurate statistics on who is getting the disease and where it is a problem. Because that would be discriminatory? Governments are famed for cowardice. Try the truth, guys.

Tragic news from Fort Walton Beach. The owner of the Passionate Patriot shop in Fort Walton Beach passed away in June from cancer. While his shop is still open, the family has put it up for sale.

Down the street from the Passionate Patriot is Kinfolks BBQ. The sign in their window tells you that you don't need a mask to eat there.  Thanks guys!!

Vacation is over. Back home now in the Nanny State with Ma Cooper telling us all how to live while he breaks state laws every day. Honk if you hate Roy Cooper. Get a job if you don't!
