I have made the Big Time!!

July 7 will mark the twentieth anniversary of my first post on this blog. Blogger has hosted my blog for the entire twenty years. Blogger has been owned by Google since 2003. This is my 1340th post here. More than 120,000 visits have been logged here. That's enough statistics to start my story.

About once a year, I go to Google and search the name of my blog. I just want to see what people see if they search for "Random Moments of Lunacy". I have business cards with my blog address on them, but sometimes I don't have a card, and I just tell people to "Google" "Random Moments of Lunacy". Sometimes, folks decline a card and say, "I will just Google it."

Today, when I did a Google search, nothing came up for my blog. There were only three or four things that did come up and other than one Doonesbury cartoon, they had no connection to my blog.

I did searches on Yahoo, Bing and Dogpile and plenty of results came up for my blog. But on Google, which owns Blogger, the host of my blog, there was nothing. WOW!

I searched Google for "popular porn sites" and got more results than I could even imagine. I guess that "sex" outranks "sarcasm" at Google.

The idea that large companies don't manipulate Internet search results just went down the crapper. The people who used to claim that they were champions of free speech are actually just championship quality liars.

The good news is that I have finally made the big time! Google disapproves of my thoughts enough to refuse to publicize them. This almost matches the time that I was interviewed on the CBS Evening News in 2002. The good news is that I haven't received any death threats about the blog.

In the last year, my view counts have actually increased a good bit. Maybe it is better to not be on Google? Or do fewer of my readers use Google?

So, what to do? I am going to explore using another site to host my blog. Then there is the do nothing and just see what happens alternative. Or I could just stop writing the blog and write that book that I keep trying to write. If I put the time into the book that I put into the blog, I would be at work on the encore to the book by now.

For right now, I am going to eat a ham sandwich and then sort some crap that I bought in an auction. I picked up a 1974 issue Man's Flying Jacket Heavy with attached hood issued by the USAF. It's the first one of those that I have found. Feel free to "Google" that item. That ends the commercial message.
