Post Traumatic Super Bowl Disorder?
The alleged singer Bad Bunny provided the official halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl on Sunday. There was a lot of criticism of his act because he "sang" only in Spanish. Some television expert pointed out that 50 million Americans speak Spanish. The other side of that coin is that this expert failed to point out is that 300 million Americans do not speak Spanish.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell obviously subscribes to the "all publicity is good publicity" theory. I don't have the experience of Commissioner Goodell, but I don't think that insulting your customer base is a long-term growth strategy. I think that if more than five million people changed stations at halftime to watch a different halftime show, you might have a problem. Houston, we have a data failure!
If this was really the two best teams playing, why did it take one so long to actually score? No one turns on the Super Bowl to see a team take three quarters to put some points on the scoreboard.
Are the Super Bowl and the NFL America's Roman Coliseum? Do professional sports serve to detract Americans from the real issues of life, like the invasion of our country by millions of foreigners every year?
Is the good news for Senor Goodell that the NFL can't hold a candle to the "music business"? It's obvious that the Super Bowl and the Brotherhood of the Bad Bunny can't hold a candle for offensive comments compared to the Grammy Awards the previous Sunday. I just saw the news reports of the Grammy Awards, and it made me decide to take the radio out of the truck.
I will end my criticism of the Stupor Bowl with a quote from Dallas Cowboys running back Duane Thomas after his team won Super Bowl VI. Asked by reporters after the game about the importance of the game, he said, "If it's the ultimate game, how come they're playing it again next year?".
The Grammy Awards obviously have one of those "Check Your Brains at the Door" policies for people who win and then want to make a speech. How about that homely chick claiming that there were "no illegals on stolen land"? It turned out that she has a $15 million mansion on land claimed by some Indian tribe. You have to love the irony in that situation. Is she going to give it back?
There needs to be some kind of public protective order from the FCC that would prevent the television networks from broadcasting more than one useless event within a thirty-day period. It should be illegal to broadcast the Super Bore less than ten days after the Grammy Awards. There should be some kind of required waiting period.
