Open Letter to Congress:
Dear Congress,
You Suck! Allow me now to expand on that thought. As I write this, Congress is on the verge of starting another partial government shutdown. You people are the gold standard for "slow learners". It has been less than ninety days since the last government shutdown ended. What the hell are you idiots thinking? What will it take for one of these shutdowns to be a learning experience for you?
I just don't understand how hard it could possibly be to actually do your job. Passing the budget/spending bill may be the most important thing that you do. I think we need all of you to take a course on prioritizing your job functions. In last year's shutdown, the government was shut down for 43 days. Were you guys on the job in Washington for the entire 43 days while the government foundered? Of course not, you aren't that committed to doing your job.
After making a deal to end the last shutdown and setting a deal deadline of January 30, did you work every day until you came up with a new spending bill? Of course not. You took several days as a break at Thanksgiving and then another break for Christmas and New Year. Why not just work on the budget until it passes before taking time off? If you weren't getting paid during shutdowns, maybe it would heighten your interest in solving the problem.
Federal employees who do not work during shutdowns and are not considered essential like air traffic controllers should not be paid for the shutdown period after the situation is resolved. Why do we give federal employees their full pay not to work? Let them collect unemployment like the average American workers do when their employers shut down. Let's motivate members Congress during shutdowns by not paying them at all for those days.
Congress exists to vote on legislation. We need to start docking the pay of Representatives or Senators who do not cast votes. I don't care why you didn't vote. All I know is that we pay you to create and vote on legislation. If you aren't voting, why the hell are we paying you? Try doing your job!!
Just for the record, in 2025 the Senate had 659 roll call votes. Three senators Collins, Moreno, and Husted did not miss a single vote. The worst of the Senators was Ruben Gallego, who missed 95 votes. He's rumored to be testing the waters for a Presidential run in 2028. Obviously, he won't have to worry about having a record to stand on. In second place was Thom Tillis, the shitbag senior Senator from North Carolina (my state) who missed 77 votes. Tillis had already announced that he would not seek re-election, so I guess that he just checked out early. With almost a year to go in his term, we just need to ease his ass on out the door. Third place was Bernie Sanders, The Green Mountain Commie from Vermont. Bernie missed 58 votes while winging across the country on a private jet for his "Fighting Oligarchy" tour. He's too much of a schmuck to appreciate the irony in that named endeavor. In fourth place was Tammy Duckworth of Illinois who missed 57 votes. I am sure that she was somewhere talking trash about conservatives and couldn't be bothered to vote. In fifth place was Mitch McConnell, who missed 55 votes but has probably forgotten why. Mitch has been in the Senate longer than my older son has been alive.
If any of this bothers you, tune in tomorrow for "Let's Bring Democracy to the US Senate!!"
This has nothing to do with anything else here, but Thursday afternoon I actually saw a Tesla going down NC 14 with a "Newsome 28" bumper stick. It had to be a joke!!
