Twain was Right

Mark Twain was responsible for popularizing the phrase "There are lies, damned lies and statistics." The origin of the phrase is a little murky, but Twain once attributed it to Benjamin Disraeli. It really doesn't matter who said it first, it is still the truth.

Low IQ leftists or as some call them, Democrats, are screaming because Donald Trump has fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau went back and revised the "jobs numbers" for some previous months. They had also done the same thing last year in the Biden/Obama/Jill Administration.

Let's clear the air on the "jobs numbers". These are not actual numbers of people working in America. The Bureau of Labor Statistics takes a sampling from participating employers. From that data, they extrapolate the "jobs numbers" that they pass off on the American people as "facts". This is like using polls to decide the winners in elections. Do you believe that a poll of a few thousand people would be enough data to determine the next president? Of course not, but we do that regularly with the economy.

If you are a regular reader, you may be thinking, "I have read this swill before." You would be correct. I published "Mark Twain on Lies" in August 2024. Read that rant for an account of my personal experience with "jobs numbers". Here's a link to that post. Random Moments of Lunacy: Mark Twain on Lies

Trump should not have fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics; he should have shut down the entire bureau. Why are we wasting millions of dollars on people who are making up data that they pass off to the American people as "facts"? Trump could probably get information on job growth with the same accuracy by calling one of those "California Psychics" that you hear advertised. Hell, he could have called me. I could have made up some numbers and picked up some serious spending money for a couple of hours work. I could get as close as those schmucks taking our money and posing as employees.

In an age of everything being computerized, surely there must be a better way for the government to get "jobs numbers". Let's find it!!
