Terminating Teen Takeovers?
It's the middle of summer and the streets are alive with the sounds of "teen takeovers". Let's be honest here, "takeovers" is a semi-polite term created by the liberals in the media and government to describe a riot or disturbance or acts of revolution.
After a "teen takeover" in Raleigh over the holiday weekend, the mayor of the city is considering a curfew for teenagers. I have read about curfews being considered by other cities around the nation and all of the reports leave me with one question. Where the hell are the parents of these kids??
I am so old that I tell people that I remember when we used to hold parents responsible for the actions of their minor children. Today, it appears that no one is responsible for the actions of the little bastards. We need to bring back the concept of "parental responsibility".
We live in a nation where the leftists/Communists/Democrats have decided that the government can raise our children better than parents can. What you see in "teen takeovers" is the forbidden fruit of that foolish folly. I considered a couple of more "F" words, but I will save them for another rant.
Do you remember parents? Parents were mothers and fathers who raised their children. Today, two parent families are on the endangered species list. The government has decided that it knows best how to raise your children and a 2:00 AM street riot is the product of that governmental decision.
When I was growing up, the first time that I saw the world outside my house at 2:00 AM was the first time that I cooked the midnight shift at the Waffle House. A couple of years of cooking the midnight shift taught me that there wasn't a whole lot of good stuff happening at that hour. I don't believe that the situation has changed in the fifty years since then. If anything, it has worsened. In 1975, there were more arrests for prostitution made in the Waffle House parking lot at 2502 North Dale Mabry than anywhere else in town. Almost all were made between 9:00PM and 4:00 AM.
Some cities have imposed curfews on those under 18. There was a curfew in the City of Tampa when I was growing up there and I don't recall anyone being emotionally traumatized by the enforcement of that ordinance. But to honest, cities should not have to impose curfews on children. Parents should be doing that. If your child is out at 1:30 AM on a Sunday morning, you can bet your ass that they aren't waiting in line to get into the early service at church. Hell, I can't remember the last time that I was out at 1:30 AM on something that was unrelated to work.
Who lets their kids roam the streets at 1:30 AM? People who allow this are not fit to be parents. If you don't know where your child is at 1:30 AM, you are not really parenting. You aren't even pretending to be a parent. Your ass needs to go to jail for not knowing where you kids are and what they are doing.
Children are out in the streets at 1:00 AM because their parents just don't really care about them. This is what happens when children have children. This is what happens when our government assistance programs support and thereby encourage single parents. This is the factory that produces Democratic voters.
We need to stop rewarding children for having children. We need to get men involved in raising the children that they fathered. I have had hundreds of people who worked for me who never had any contact with their fathers. Many didn't even know who their father was. It's time for honest discussions about parenting that involves more than child support checks.
